Elder Abuse in America
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page report discusses the fact
that the majority of the population is aware that there is a
serious problem in America with child abuse but few understand
how much of a problem also exists related to elder abuse. In
fact “some five percent of the Nation's elderly may be the
victims of abuse from moderate to severe... or more than 1.5
million elderly may be victims of such abuse each year.” That
number is all the more problematic due to the hidden and complex
nature of the problem. Older Americans often live in some degree
of isolation, whether in their own homes, the homes of adult
children or institutions. Detection by people outside the family
or the facility is much more unlikely and the occurrence of elder
abuse is suspected to be remarkably under-reported. Bibliography
lists 7 sources.

Evaluating HMOs
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. The necessary steps to take
to ensure financial stability within the confines of health
maintenance organizations (HMO) are various and many. While most
HMOs got large rate increases in 1999, most analysts feel that is
what we are seeing a reflection of. Health plans' big premium
increases and enhanced profit margins could lead to increased
tension with providers, including hospitals, researchers
reported. The writer discusses how hospitals and integrated
systems eager for a bigger piece of the premium pie could take
aggressive stances in contract talks with managed-care
organizations. Bibliography lists 2 sources.

Financial Crisis Facing Today’s Nursing Homes
[ send me this paper ]
This 20 page
report discusses the state of the nursing home industry in the
United States and the many problems and challenges it has face
and continues to face. Even though Congress restored nearly $3
billion to skilled nursing facilities in 1999, it still wasn’t
enough to keep many of the facilities operating. In general, the
government’s payment system and the ever-increasing costs of
doing business and providing services has resulted in financial
disasters throughout the nursing home industry, especially for
the most financially leveraged nursing home chains. Issues
associated with nursing homes’ financial, regulatory, and
administrative problems are discussed. Bibliography lists 20
sources.
