Effects Of TANF & Microenterprise

A 21 page paper that examines the effects of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), which became law in August 1996 and which replaced AFDC. This essay offers a general introduction to the federal TANF program and then investigates a number of aspects of the programs beginning with TANF spending, including the national averages of how much was spent versus the amount of the grants and the percentages spent on different categories. Evaluating Two Antipoverty Policies

Eradicating poverty is a concept that - while met with myriad valiant efforts - is not likely to occur in the near future; the extent to which various programs and policies have failed to address the issue at its fundamental core clearly speaks to the perpetual backward slide that occurs with every attempt thrown at the problem. Fair housing and welfare represent two monumental policies that have ultimately failed because of poor vision and the absence of solid program infrastructure. While they both share a common denominator of working toward eliminating at least part of the financial burden placed on the impoverished, they differ in the scope of their respective operations being that fair housing provides the opportunity to secure adequate shelter, while welfare freely gives substantial amounts of money to those who cheat the system.
